Re: “Dianne Feinstein's War

Good grief, all is not forgiven because the National Park Service apologized for and retracted a terribly flawed study. Determining the viability of the oyster farm centers on its impact to the environment. The lease should not be denied for fear of precedent of powerful senators getting their way. They already get their way. If that is the issue then why even require an environmental impact report? Put that aside and what is left in this story? A fisherman who claims a dozen plastic rings allegedly discarded by the Oyster farm is the difference between a federally protected marine sanctuary. At least the Park Service started with a dire premise.

Re: “Dog Park Divides Lake Merritt

Have any of you soothsayers --either for or against -- actually investigated how other communities have installed dog parks? Most of the arguments propagated in these comments have been answered. Go spend time at dog park and talk to the people who were for and against it. See how they feel now. But please can elitist talk about the gateway to Oakland and preserving space for all Oaklanders. If you truly want to preserve space for all Oklanders, then don't exclude anybody from the space.

Re: “Dog Park Divides Lake Merritt

Here we go, why does one user group get preference over another? People need places to take their dogs for off leash exercise. It's important for dogs and people. Not everyone has a backyard like Steve Saffold. Dog park proponents are not a small vocal group. 1 in 3 households in the Bay areas has a dog. Children, dog walkers, birds and grumpy people can all peacefully share land resources.
