Re: “I am Annoyed and Disappointed

I was wondering how Landmark was doing these days and if they had altered their culture of pressure to sell the products. Now I see nothing has changed from when I participated in the Landmark work for 10 years from 1980-1990. Landmark education was in my time and remains no different culturally from the Werner Erhard created est.

The culture of the organization is a such that, especially if you volunteer at a high level, there is increasing pressure to sell the "Work" to any and EVERYone you know. There is a extremely powerful message that if you dont get others involved your failing to be a transformed being. i.e. getting others in make you a star and the most transformed! Like fundamentalism, the more you get in the higher amount of transformation you get and the more love you get from others. I had a hard time having freinds who had not done the "work" without trying to always sell them on it. This is a set up for emotional confusion at best and emotional blackmail at worst.

I ultimately found the culture of Landmark too abusive and without moral integrity and left after Werner Erhard was accused of sexually abusing his daughter by her on 60 minutes in the early 90's. When I went into the office to ask what was going on they passed the accusation off as an attack by Scientology. This occurence shattered my personal denial and emotional attachments and investments in the Landmark culture and community and opened my eyes to that abuse and emotional treachery of the cultish community.

I did meet lots of fantastic people in Landmark and would never have been able to start my own business as early as I did without the training and community. It is still one of the best networking envrionments on the planet in my opinion. I would still be doing the cirriculum if it were a healthy culture and put on by healthy people with a good moral compass. From reading this article it is clear that this is not yet the case. If they dont think so I think they need to lean into the mirror a little more.
