Of all the Bay Area’s many low-profile record labels — quietly releasing short runs of vinyl at a rate that suggests their proprietors rely on accumulated loose change for funding — Melters is one of the most consistent. Following crucial titles by the related acts Violent Change, Tony Molina, and Ovens, Melters’ first release of 2015 will be Swiftumz’s Everyone Loves Chris. It starts with a voicemail from guitarist and vocalist Chris McVicker’s dad, letting his son know that a paltry $27 check from BMI had arrived, and then a snare crack and sputtering electric guitar initiates the finest local power-pop album since Cocktails’ Adult Life. Swiftumz’s upcoming show on Wednesday at the Elbo Room (647 Valencia St., San Francisco) with Stalls and the shimmery pop act Tiaras — whose recent eponymous debut is an early highlight of the year — precedes the band’s imminent album release by a couple of months. Attend, relish having known the band first, and console Vickers about the meager returns from his creative enterprise — so far, at least.
