Filmmakers Ilisa Barbash and Lucien Castaing-Taylor hit the trail with a crew of Montana sheep herders, and we tag along, in this gloriously mundane cinema-verité documentary. After scenes of shearing and the birth of lambs, it packs us on horseback as the John the rancher and his hands drive their huge flock into the grandiose Absaroka-Beartooth Mountains for summer grazing, on the lookout for bears and the types of trouble only sheep can get into. No narration or subtitles, just copious bleating and a lot of potential sweaters on the hoof. Produced by the Harvard Sensory Ethnography Lab (101 min.).
Director: Lucien Castaing-Taylor and Ilisa Barbash
Cast: John Ahern, Elaine Allestad, Lawrence Allestad and Pat Connolly
