Swedish Chamber Orchestra

When: Sun., April 6, 3 p.m. 2008
Price: $34-$58

It's another of those ridiculously rich weekends. First, Cal Performances sponsors famed Early Music ensemble EuropaGalante on Friday night. Then they bring the Swedish Chamber Orchestra on Sunday, competing for attendees with Philharmonia Baroque's season finale. If my vote goes for the Swedes, it is due to the extraordinary pianism of their soloist, PiotrAnderszewski. The man has music in his blood. His performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1, supported by an ideal 38 players, should be wondrous. The big question is how Robert Schumann's Symphony No. 2 in C major will sound when tackled by such small forces. There's only way to find out; go! At Zellerbach Hall (Bancroft Wy. at Telegraph Ave., UC Berkeley) on Friday, April 4 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, April 6 at 3 p.m., $34-$58. or 510-642-9988.
