Despite her Santa Monica birthplace, Suzanne Vega has always been readily identified with New York City, and never more so than with the release of Beauty & Crime.Inspired by the events of 9/11,Vega's seventh album not surprisingly uses New York City as both its inspiration and setting. Amid the bossa nova and trip-hoppy nuances sprinkled in this collection, Vega makes direct references to that day via lines like his clothes in a cloud/ of the dust and the dirt and destruction that kick off the airy "Angel's Doorway," as well as memories of hanging out on the Upper West Side as a teen during the '70s in the harmony-soaked opener "Zephyr & I." All of which makes Vega's latest as bright and personalized as a love letter to the Big Apple that's come along since Lou Reed's New York. Opening the show is Richard and Linda Thompson's son and fellow NYC transplant Teddy Thompson. Monday, Nov. 12 at the Fillmore.$32.50. 8 p.m.
