Susan Tedeschi

When: Tue., Feb. 17, 8 p.m. 2009
Price: $35

The past decade has been good to Susan Tedeschi -- a 2000 Best New Artist Grammy nomination and a thriving solo career propelled by gospel-fueled vocals and guitar chops falling somewhere between Buddy Guy and Bonnie Raitt. Ending a three-year absence of new material, last year Tedeschi released Back to the River, a roots-rock project infused with quite a bit of soulfulness. The Massachusetts native tears up a treasure-trove of original material, co-written with the likes of Tony Joe White, husband Derek Trucks, and Doyle Bramhall II. Joining her at the Fillmore (1805 Geary Blvd., San Francisco) on Tues., Feb. 17, is guitar-playing Brit James Hunter, who possesses a croon with hints of Sam Cooke's smoothness, James Brown's bite, and Scaggs' smokiness. 8 p.m., $35.
