Susan Alcorn

When: Tue., Jan. 22, 6 p.m. 2008
Price: free

Following in the literal footsteps of kings, queens, and countless ordinary but earnest people, Susan Alcorn walked 400 miles across northern Spain with her husband Ralph in 2001, following the venerable pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, whose grand cathedral houses the alleged remains of Saint James. At the Ygnacio Valley Library (2661 Oak Grove Rd., Walnut Creek) on Tuesday, Jan. 22, the Oakland author and UC Berkeley grad discusses her book, Camino Chronicle -- and explains how she found a new lease on life when she started backpacking at age 48. 6 p.m.
