The premise is simple. Fifty years in the future, Earth's sun is dying and so a team of eight astronauts are sent to reignite the star with an experimental nuclear device -- but that's where the simplicity ends. Director Danny Boyle turns the disaster flick on its head here and, thanks to his unique ability to elevate genre movies to something akin to art, delivers one of the most suspenseful movies to drop this year and, even more remarkably, one of the best sci-fi movies to be released in the past few years. Sure, the final act kind of falls apart as the movie stumbles into horror, but the ride getting there is not to be missed.
