Sometimes grown-ups need a little kid-free fun in a kid-friendly setting. That's why Brett Mermer, the self-proclaimed "outreach maestro" of Playland Not-at-the-Beach (10979 San Pablo Ave., El Cerrito) launched the museum's Playland After Dark series, a new monthly gathering where adults can leave the kids at home and enjoy Playland's antique pinball machines and vintage carnival attractions, plus maybe a beer or two. This month, in honor of legendary director Billy Wilder's 105th birthday, Mermer presents a Sunset-a-bration on Thursday, June 23, where fans of the classic Hollywood film Sunset Boulevard can enjoy a night of movie-themed events in addition to the museum's regular attractions. Special activities include movie trivia, a photo booth, and an improvisational Charlie Chaplin look-alike contest. 6 p.m., $10. 510-592-3002 or
