Re: “Tragedy on the French Trail

In response to the mountain bike advocates question on why mountain bikes are banned from foot trails (known as single-track trails to mountain bikers, I would say that foot trails are safe for living things traveling on their feet. Equestrians and hikers have shared foot trails for many, many years. Mountain bikes are a non-motorized vehicle that travels at speeds that are unsafe for equestrians and hikers due to the width constraints of foot trails.

When equestrians practice sports such as barrel racing, roping, etc. they do it on private land not on shared public park land. I recommend mountain bikers follow their lead.
