After twice walking off the job for two days in the last few months, nurses in the Sutter hospital chain now plan to launch a ten-day strike to protest stalled contract negotiations. Hospitals around the East Bay will be affected, including the Alta Bates Summit campuses in Berkeley and Oakland, Castro Valley's Eden Medical Center, and the Sutter Delta Medical Center in Antioch. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Sutter has hired roughly 500 replacement workers to staff Alta Bates Summit, which is less than a third of the usual workforce. If you're planning to have an aneurysm, we suggest you push it back at least two weeks.
