Rated NR · 2008
It’s been adapted as a narrative film already (1993’s Alive!), but the real-life story of a rugby team of Uruguayan teenage boys who survived an air crash in the snowy Andes Mountains in 1972 still packs a wallop. Writer-director Gonzalo Arijon’s gripping documentary reenactment benefits from first-person talking-heads testimony by the survivors, who were forced to eat the remains of their dead compadres in order to have the strength to make it down the mountain. Amazing but true (126 min.).
