East Bay cartoonist Gene Yang has been publishing comic books since 1996; he won the Xeric Grant for Gordon Yamamoto and the King of Geeks in 1997. His classic American Born Chinese was the first graphic novel ever to be nominated for a National Book Award. In UC Berkeley's Doe Library on Thursday, Dec. 2, Yang reads and discusses his work as this week's guest for Story Hour in the Library. 5 p.m., free. StoryHour.Berkeley.edu
