Re: “Alameda Labor Dispute Hinges on Skills of Projectionists

I went to the theatre on the first day it was opened (following the gala). The brand-new print of "Indiana Jones" was scratched the whole way through, there were focus issues and that incredibly annoying glare on the screen, anytime there was a really bright scene. I was very disappointed but felt that things would improve over time. I went to a few other shows after, which were OK, but the last straw was going to see "Wall-E" on opening day, and having the picture jump out of frame at the climax of the film, and taking several minutes to be corrected. This was well over a month after the place had been opened, and totally inexcusable. I have not been back since. My family also reported to me about having seen "Ironman" and experiencing problems with picture jumps and missing footage. Having someone watching the film from the booth could prevent these issues from coming up, but it also seems like the preparation and care involved with handling the prints is nearly non-existent. It seems ironic that such a beautiful and carefully restored movie palace would be so poor with handling the film and their presentations. I sincerely hope things improve in the future, as a LOT of Alamedans were counting on this place. Further, I hope they start opening the balcony regularly...I found the loges to be the best seats in the house, where at least the glare is not visible.
