State Expands Criminal DNA Testing Capacity

Jerry Brown's Department of Justice has finished doubling its capacity to process DNA samples, an important task now that all convicted felons have to submit a DNA sample, and the state couldn't handle the load. Now, the Chronicle reports, the Richmond-based crime lab will be able to process 390,000 samples a year. "There was a backlog," Brown said yesterday, "but that was before I was elected."
