Stand with Refugees

When: Fri., March 9, 6:30 p.m. 2018
Price: $50-$100
Welcome newly arrived refugees to the Bay Area at this fundraiser for 1951 Coffee Company, a nonprofit that trains and employs refugees and asylees at its Berkeley cafe (2410 Channing Way). Founded in 2015, 1951 Coffee has helped refugees resettle from countries such as Afghanistan, Eritrea, Iran, Myanmar, and Uganda, while also trying to educate the community on refugee issues. On this particular evening, you’ll enjoy a slate of local, top-notch food and drinks: beer from Fieldwork Brewing Co., wine from Russian River Valley vintners, and desserts from Firebrand Bakery and Third Culture Bakery — the latter makes those infamous mochi muffins. The highlight, though, will be dinner from Old Damascus Fare, a new catering company founded by a Syrian refugee family. Added incentive: $65 from each ticket will be tax deductible.
