Oakland A's center fielder Covelli Loyce "Coco" Crisp started his day Tuesday morning with one of the most awful procedures one can undergo in a dentist's chair: a root canal. Crisp then did what any self-respecting major leaguer would do while trying to balance the rigors of Spring training with the terrors of a dentist's drill: He got drunk. A little too drunk, according to Scottsdale Police, who pulled Crisp over when they saw his 2009 Rolls Royce Phantom Drop Head Coupe drifting in and out of its lane. Crisp was arrested and detained "under the suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol," according to an A's statement, and made it out of jail Wednesday morning.
He then went on to say it won't happen again: "I want to get this behind me. I guarantee this will never happen again." Crisp is batting lead-off today in the A's matchup against the Brewers at Maryvale. The outfielder will be eligible for free-agency at the conclusion of the 2011 season.
