Spooky Stories in the Redwood Grove

When: Sun., Oct. 28, 1-2:30 p.m. 2007
Price: $8-$10

Our ancestors didn't need trick lighting or sound-effects records to create creepy atmospheres in which to freak each other out. They relied on the shifting shadows and mysterious creaks of ponderous old trees -- and that's what storytellers Jean Ellisen and Bobbie Kinkead will use to augment their spooky yarn-spinning in the University of California Botanical Gardens. Along with story sessions in the redwood grove, afternoon events in the gardens also include a costume parade, songfest, and mask-making workshop for kids ($10 for one parent and child combined; $3 for each additional family member). Sunday, Oct. 28, 1 p.m.
