Re: “I am Annoyed and Disappointed

My partner worked at the Sunset location, and similar to Ash, had a negative experience with the restaurant as a front for Landmark.

Since the cult angle is covered, I just wanted to chime in about another issue with the cafe... its behavior towards social justice issues. As an organization committed to social betterment, one would think a holiday like May Day would warrant its owner to shut its doors and allow their employees to attend demonstrations occurring. They do not. Not only do they open on that day, disregarding solidarity with the labor movement and immigrant rights, when my partner worked there they did not allow their employees to take the day off, or even a couple hours off, to attend the demos. Also, their disregard for classism issues, in the form of expecting employees to pay for this forum, is overwhelmingly irresponsible. "What are you grateful for?" How about being privileged WASP and having the disposable income to pay for frivolousness?

I have never, personally, come out publicly against Cafe Gratitude, because I am an animal liberationist and resist the temptation to badmouth other animal based organizations as it causes weakness in the movement. But after reading this article, I wanted to add a voice that questions ANY entity that oppresses. Cafe Gratitude oppresses with its philosophy and expectation of their employees to participate.
