Wood Tavern's casual, cozy next-door offshoot serves a brief yet tantalizing menu of artisan sandwiches (the Dungeness crab roll with aioli is especially toothsome) as well as a soup of the day, a couple of cutting-edge crostini, and a few salads (get the poached egg and bacon with frisée and scallions). Sarah's Whoopie Pie — carrot cake layered with cream cheese ice cream — is one of the East Bay's outstanding desserts, and there are two rotating beers and three or four rotating wines on tap. The tiny tables, counter seating and friendly, noisy atmo make the place ideal for takeout orders, single diners, and couples.
