Sorrel, Su, and Pixie

When: Tue., Dec. 4, 6:30 p.m. 2007
Price: free

When spoken or read to, they sit patiently, heads cocked, eyes attentive and warm with what some would call love. After long active careers as sled dogs in Alaska's Denali National Park, where each of them ran as many as 2,000 miles per year, Sorrel, Su, and Pixie retired. Their new owners, Harry and Lela Schlitz, retrained them to be "buddy dogs," and now take them to schools, hospitals, and rest homes all over the country -- where the hard-working canines specialize in being good listeners. Meet and pat them on Dec. 4 at the Kensington Library (61 Arlington Ave., Kensington), where the Montana-based Schlitzes discuss their inspiring "Mountain Mushers" program. 6:30 p.m.
