Comedy, Drama
A doughy-faced teenage boy from up-country (Thomas Turgoose from This Is England) runs away to London, where instead of Fagin he falls in with the sweetest collection of amiable eccentrics one could imagine, including a similarly unformed adolescent, the son (Piotr Jagiello) of an immigrant Polish laborer (Ireneusz Czop). The aim of director Shane Meadows (This Is England was his) and screenwriter Paul Fraser seems to be to show that even the biggest, hardest city can contain friendly souls, if you’re lucky enough. Shares a gentle, observant tone with the early films of Ken Loach (75 min.).
