You've seen the Hollywood version of 12 Years a Slave...Now view the original film! Solomon Northup wrote the true account of his life, Twelve Years a Slave, in 1853. Filmmaker/photographer Gordon Parks released a film version, Solomon Northup's Odyssey, which aired on PBS in 1984. Northup is a free black man living and working in Maryland during the 1840s. Unexpectedly, a visiting slave owner apprehends Solomon and brings him to the South. Unable to escape, Northup has no choice but to endure his plight for more than a decade. Doors open at 5:45PM. Film will begin at 6:00PM.
