Social Distortion

When: Fri., Jan. 4, 9 p.m. 2008
Price: $30

Emerging from the Los Angeles hardcore scene in the late '70s, Social Distortion and its amalgam of punk, rockabilly, and honky-tonk went on to become the soundtrack to southern California hot-rod culture. The New Year finds these punk godfathers celebrating their thirtieth anniversary on the heels of releasing the career-spanning anthology Greatest Hits. And with tattooed founding member Mike Ness at the helm and still as uncompromising as ever, Social D will continue to provide the link between Johnny Cash and Darby Crash into the foreseeable future. For this four-date stand, Bay Area punks American Steel open the first night followed by Orange County power-trio Tone Junkies, pop-punks 22 Jacks, and finally Washington state rockabilly revivalists Tumbledown. Friday, Jan. 4 through Sunday, Jan. 6 and Tuesday, Jan. 8 at the Fillmore (1805 Geary Blvd., San Francisco). 9 p.m., $30.
