A contractor with everything to lose (Dwayne Johnson) gets in over his head when he volunteers to go undercover as a high-priced drug mule in an effort to free his son, set up for an ecstasy bust and facing serious time. The movie is not as bad it sounds. Lively off-center direction by stunt-man-turned-director Ric Roman Waugh (Felon), high-quality action sequences, generally dumb dialogue (by Waugh and Justin Haythe), but the saving graces are the performances of Jon Bernthal as an ex-con and Michael K. Williams as the dope kingpin of Jefferson City, Missouri. Barry Pepper (as a DEA agent) and Susan Sarandon (a crafty, ambitious federal prosecutor) are also good. Makes its point, bluntly. (112 min.)
