Snailface

When: Sat., Nov. 20, 9:30 p.m. 2010
Price: $6
Starting with the premise that ridiculous is what you're aiming for, the members of serious San Francisco sludge band Kowloon Walled City opened themselves creatively to a fierce beast known as Snailface. A RPM Challenge-spawned project whose two albums are both free for download, Snailface traffics in Seventies-inspired stoner rock, tongue firmly planted in cheek: handclaps, cowbell, big dumb riffs, and lyrics about hallucinogens ("Drug School"), romance ("Lady Reptilian Lover"), and mythical beasts (the entire second album). The band will celebrate the release of its double-cassette (cased in yeti fur) by performing for the first (and perhaps last) time on Saturday, Nov. 20, with locals Atomic Bomb Audition and Cartographer. Singer-guitarist Scott Evans says "narrators, tightrope walkers, pink suits, Ted Nugent himself, loincloths, pentatonic riffs, backup singers, fog machines, Zeus, horse heads, flute solos, headlamps, local celebrities, Marshall stacks, capes, [and] skywriting" may or may not appear. Take your chances. 9:30 p.m., $6. HemlockTavern.com
