Slow Food East Bay’s Cultural Food Traditions Project: Black America

This Sunday, head to Red Bay Coffee for a special dinner by Chef Fernay McPherson of Minnie Bell’s Soul Movement, who was named one of the San Francisco Chronicle’s Rising Star Chefs in 2017. She’ll be cooking up delicious soulf food, sharing stories about her childhood in the Fillmore district of San Francisco, and talking about her experience as a food entrepreneuer. Chef Rashad Armstead of Grammie’s Down Home Chicken & Seafood and Crave BBQ also shares the bill, serving up barbecue. They’ll be joined by food justice activist and writer Shakirah Simley, who will talk with them about Black food culture, the Great Migration, and the challenges that Black-owned food entrepreneurs face today. Sip wines from Black-owned wineries and chat with Josh Diggs of Temescal Brewing, who is working to increase diversity in the craft beer industry. Purchase tickets on Eventbrite.
