Simple solution if the good father and others of his ilk choose to become active in politics, remove the tax exemption. Let's see how eager these churches are to get involved when it starts hitting them in the pocketbook. Tax their salaries, real estate and personal property just like other political activists. The tax exemption assumes the churches are spending the money and efforts to help the poor and disadvantaged, not orchestrating initiative to further the "christian/catholic" agenda. Don't think there isn't one there, and that's OK as long as we don't fund it by making them tax exempt. Surely someone in CA can start that referndum on a statewide basis. Boxer can do it federally.
