Slap Hitter: WTF WhatIf sports?

Mon, Feb 16, 2009 at 3:43 PM

According to some ENIAC era data entry system, the Oakland A's look like the worst team in the mlb for 2009. To which we say get your whatin' facts straight. The Athletics have just their standard operating crises entering spring training: Eric Chavez is going to miss the first week of competiton, none of our pitchers have any experience and Bobby Crosby's playing at short. That sounds like a .500 start to us at least.

Here's what we don't have for a change. Rich Harden vowing to stay in one piece.. Miguel Tejada distracted. All we have is a scrappy underdog vibe and this. Maybe Giambi's lost pounds found their way to rookie Gio Gonzalez, potential number five starter who according to jocular teammates put on a cool 27 pounds this off-season.

As an A's fan, you've got to be fired up about a legit reason to tune in when the three, four and five-hitters step up to the plate, and you've got a few weeks to change your radio pre-sets to find the green and gold, even if it means you can't hear the A's in stereo anymore.

No need to fret over the one brainless computer picking us for worst in the game. The whatif folk are tied in to Fox network, which I recall had McCain to win and was giving points.— Kibby Kleiman
