Sierra Hull at the Freight

Sierra Hull was playing mandolin with Allison Krauss, one of her mentors, on the stage of the Grand Ol’ Opry when she was 11. She started playing when she was eight and released her first album, Angel Mountain, by the time she was ten. Her talent as a musician earned her a Presidential Scholarship to the Berklee College of Music — the first bluegrass musician to win the honor. She played at the White House for President Obama before she turned 21. Hull compliments her impressive picking with a powerful singing voice and a songwriting skill that combines bluegrass and folk music into something all her own. Her latest album, Weighted Mind, was produced by bluegrass/jazz legend Bela Fleck and showcases Hull’s songwriting savvy and expansive emotional awareness. Sam Reider, an accordion player with a style that brings to mind Django Reinhart sitting in with the Klezmatics, will open the show.
