Once more through the Los Angeles basin, a place lazy filmmakers never get tired of. Almost everyone in director Jonas Pate and screenwriter Thomas Moffett’s scenario is depressed and/or self-medicating, works in the entertainment industry, and has need for the services of Kevin Spacey’s equally burnt out and self-pitying psychiatrist, Henry Carter. Spacey has played variations on Henry umpteen times before, but that doesn’t seem to bother Mark Webber (a younger, presumably cheaper Sam Rockwell, playing a fledgling writer), Saffron Burrows (as a washed-up actress), Dallas Roberts (hyper-mean talent agent), Robin Williams (alcoholic satyr), and the other cardboard cutout characters. Throw it in the shark tank with Crash, Grand Canyon, Magnolia, etc. Adapted from the novel by Henry Rearden (104 min.).
