Burlingame-based mini-chain Shabu House entered the East Bay for the first time with its San Leandro location. As with the other restaurants, the San Leandro Shabu House takes shabu shabu very seriously. The space is designed specifically with the Japanese form of hot pot in mind, including induction burners embedded within every table and ventilation hoods installed above them. The staff slices meats to order, and the wagyu beef, lamb, and pork all arrive paper thin, beautifully marbled, and fanned out with precision. In keeping with the Japanese style, the broths are mild to bland, but the dipping sauces are excellent.
