Seth Rosenfeld

When: Thu., June 19, 7:30-9:30 p.m. 2014
Price: $12-$15
In his 2012 review of Subversives: The FBI’s War on Student Radicals & Reagan’s Rise to Power in The New York Times, venerable political journalist Matt Taibbi called the book nothing less than an “electrifying examination of a newly declassified treasure trove of documents detailing our government’s campaign of surveillance of the Berkeley campus during the ’60s.” High praise, but utterly warranted: Berkeley journalist Seth Rosenfeld’s latest is an assiduously researched history of student protest at Berkeley and elsewhere that happens to read like a thriller — or, more accurately, that was expertly engineered by an uncommonly gifted writer to read that way. The book is now in paperback, and Rosenfeld will be discussing it this week at St. John’s Presbyterian Church (2727 College Ave., Berkeley) along with longtime KPFA host Richard Wolinsky.
