Comedy drama, Romance
Earth will be destroyed by an asteroid in 21 days, and the end can’t come fast enough for Dodge (Steve Carell), a lonely noodnik whose wife has left him – no doubt driven away by boredom. But then, when all is lost, into Dodge’s final, painful days comes Penny (Keira Knightley), a similarly disadvantaged neighbor with a cute lil’ dog named Sorry. They take a chaotic but spirited road trip through apocalyptic America and discover true love. And we find out just how excruciatingly maudlin a screenplay by actress-turned-filmmaker Lorene Scafaria can be. Even if there aren’t really only a few days until the world explodes, you wouldn’t want to waste your precious time on junk like this. Costarring Tonita Castro, William Petersen, Derek Luke, and Patton Oswalt. (101 min.)
