What better target of local philanthropy than homeless youth? Just as George Bush was born into his place in the world, thousands of Bay Area babies land on the street or at least end up there before earning their chance to fight for something better. It’s an injustice the good people at At the Crossroads seek to correct, most notably (to Ear Bud’s ears) through an eponymous fundraising compilation issued last year on SF-based Three Ring Records.
The 22-track comp maintains a mellow, oft-acoustic vibe through tracks from local artists such as Rogue Wave (“Basketball”), the Ebb and Flow (“Framer Framed (Winslow Turner Porter III Remix)”), Scrabbel (“Rosamo”), and elephone (“Seconds”). All proceeds go directly toward “helping kids on the streets of San Francisco,” writes ATC founder Rob Gitin in the liner notes. What, no East Bay love? Well then we take it all back! Just kidding. To show how appreciative we are, we’ll even plug your next event: A Benefit for Homeless Youth at the Rockit Room in SF on May 19. The concert is part of the Mission Creek Music and Arts Festival and starts at 1 p.m. with a day-long lineup including nine local acts capped by headliner Music For Animals. It’s music for homeless kids too, and don’t you forget it.
