In Baja California’s Sea of Cortez, a determined crew of scientists and volunteers is cutting gill nets in an effort to stop organized poachers from overfishing. At issue is the totoaba, a species highly valued on the black market in China. Director Richard Ladkani’s action-packed documentary takes us aboard for an exposé that leads us from the port of San Felipe to Mexicali to Tijuana to Hong Kong. A fine example of “outrage doc,” produced for National Geographic.
