Scottish Games Critics' Pick Staff Pick

When: Sat., Aug. 30, 9 a.m. and Sun., Aug. 31, 9 a.m. 2008
Price: $12-$17

Having a little Olympic Games withdrawal? Trying to get by without a daily dose of beach volleyball or synchronized diving? Head to the Alameda County Fairgrounds (4501 Pleasanton Ave., Pleasanton) for this weekend's 143rd Annual Scottish Highland Games. Remember that the next Summer Olympiad is in Great Britain, so you'll be ready when the "heavy events" get called to action (by bagpipes!). There will be piping, drumming, and the kilted mile race. Hey, it's working, I've already forgotten all about floor exercises! August 30-31. 9 a.m., $17 for adults, $12 for youth.
