I agree with the final analysis here. Why should the chamber of commerce have a fast-track consideration for a ballot initiative that Lift Up Oakland worked so hard to get? This is WRONG. A minority mercantile community should not be prioritized over the needs of Oakland's overall economy. We ALL need a boost. If my husband and I made more money we could afford to patronize more businesses. Combined, we work 80+ hours a week in the restaurant industry (minimum wage + tips) and we only have enough for rent (1,312.00/month for a small 2 bedroom for ourselves & our daughter), food, a small amount of gas for our 15 year old car, utilities, cell phone bill and one sunday breakfast per month at Momma's Royal Cafe, and we are WIPED OUT. No savings, to outings, no alcohol, no new clothes, no dental work, and no spontaneous purchases. Think that over Oakland "Chamber of Commerce."
