Sadie Hawkins Dance at Ashkenaz

The folks behind the blogs YK La Familia (YKLaFamilia.us) and Hey-Ma (HeyMa.co) have decided to give the East Bay a chance to reverse stereotypical gender roles. They’re throwing a Sadie Hawkins dance at Ashkenaz in Berkeley this Thursday, where women are invited to ask the guys to be their dates (though people of all gender identities and sexual orientations — and single people — are invited too, of course). And the event features a dynamic cast of female DJs and performers including rapper Siri and R&B singer Rayana Jay, whose sultry new single “Sleepy Brown” has been making the rounds on blogs and SoundCloud playlists. Drea Faux Real, a DJ and creative director of Hey-Ma, will be spinning, as well as Oakland favorites Red Corvette and Namaste Shawty, and more.
