The second outpost of Rudy’s Can’t Fail is a nice addition to Uptown Oakland’s renaissance, adding an upbeat, family-friendly community hub to the Telegraph landscape. Food is diner-quality, another way of saying middle of the road. You can’t fail with Rudy’s pie, pancakes, and pastrami but avoid items that go off-template (e.g., fish tacos). This location is bigger than the original in Emeryville, with a full bar, but still has the basic diner vibe down pat. Equally good for breakfast or a late-night respite from the Uptown bar parade.
