Lost somewhere in the abyss between jam band masturbation and free-jazz intimidation is Los Angeles' RRIICCEE. Of course, that's taking their word for it. The new quartet, featuring bohemian anti-hero Vincent Gallo and Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson alongside lesser-knowns Rebecca Casabian and Nikolas Haas, hasn't released an album, made any music available on the Internet, or so much as recorded a single song. Nor will it ever, because RRIICCEE doesn't believe in such things. Instead, the outfit promises only live, spontaneous compositions: something more than dicking around, less than art, and other than improvisation (Gallo has said the term implies genre, which RRIICCEE rejects). In theory, the group is a critique of most bands' tendency to perform the same routine every night. As for the cold, hard, probably atonal reality -- find out Friday, Dec. 21 at the Red Devil Lounge. 8 p.m., $20.
