Roseanna Vitro

When: Sun., Sept. 18, 4:30 p.m. 2011
Price: $12-$15

Singer, teacher, and performer Roseanna Vitro has an impressive range and an eclectic selection of material. She's known for her innate sense of swing and an ability to slip from a seductive purr to a soulful wail. She's also an impressive improvisational singer in the style of Ella Fitzgerald, and a talented jazz songwriter to boot. Her most recent disc, The Music of Randy Newman, garnered high praise from critics, including a 4.5-star review in Billboard. She reinvents Newman classics and obscurities with a stellar band that includes pianist and arranger Mark Soskin. At The Jazzschool (2087 Addison St., Berkeley) on Sunday, Sept. 18. 4:30 p.m., $12-$15. 510-845-5373 or Jazzschool.com
