Roger Waters: The Wall Live: Roger Waters

When: Fri., Dec. 3, 8 p.m. 2010
Price: $70-$250

It's easy to feel cynical upon hearing that Roger Waters is going on the road with The Wall: Live, given the fact that outside of the three solo albums he's released since he left Pink Floyd in 1985, most of his projects have involved revisiting this album or Dark Side of the Moon. The big deal here is Waters commemorating the30thanniversary of the album's release, not to mention a huge stage production that far surpasses the original high-tech tour in 1980. Recent shows performed during the East Coast swing of the tour proved this multi-media extravaganza to be more than a rote run-through of the original double-album. In addition to the impressive amount of bells and whistles poured into his performance, Waters also weaves in editorial broadsides against materialism, the endless thread of global wars waged in the past century, and the resulting modern-day terrorism that's sidetracked any hopes of world peace. This slice of thinking-man's classic rock will undoubtedly be wrapped in a haze of cannabis smoke on Friday, Dec.3 at Oracle Arena (7000 Coliseum Way, Oakland) 8 p.m. $70-$250. Coliseum.com
