Rodney Leon

When: Tue., Feb. 18, 12 p.m.
Price: Admission
In December 2007, the United Nations General Assembly designated March, 25 as the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade and welcomed proposals to erect a permanent memorial acknowledging one of the most horrific tragedies of modern history to serve as a reminder of the legacy of slavery and the transatlantic slave trade. Designed by Rodney Leon, the memorial, titled The Ark of Return, was unveiled on March 25, 2015. Leon, a Haitian-American architect, who also designed the African Burial Ground National Monument in New York, the oldest and largest known excavated burial ground in North America, will be giving a talk about his work, public art and 400 years of resistance to slavery and oppression.
