Robyn Hitchcock

Robyn Hitchcock at Starline Social Club Robyn Hitchcock knows how to write a catchy pop song. But that doesn’t mean he’s spent much time on the Billboard charts. His early ’90s song “So You Think You’re In Love,” was probably his biggest moment in the spotlight in his 40-plus-year career. It’s a tongue-in-cheek psych-pop tune, but it only really scratched the surface of the artist’s range. Taking lyrics that could stand alone as surrealistic poetic works of art, mixed with a range of influences that encompasses the stranger sides of pop like Syd Barrett and Captain Beefheart with more palatable mainstream artists like the Beatles and Bob Dylan, Hitchcock has carved out a cult career unlike any other living artist still buzzing around the globe, playing his tunes on whatever stage invites him. He’s released solo albums, records as the Egyptians, Venus 3, and of course with his ’70s post-punk band the Soft Boys.
