Re: “Schaaf Fails Her First Big Test

@Tom Webb - just curious. when was the last time you actually walked in one of those demonstrations? You know the ones with the "thug element". Define your terms. What is a "thug element", exactly?

Re: “Schaaf Fails Her First Big Test

How's that breathless endorsement and softball coverage of Schaaf's candidacy working out for ya? Can you imagine any scenario in which Kaplan would have banned the right to assembly at night - or any other time? This is the true Libby Schaaf - reacting to whatever Chip Johnson and Mr. Tagami say she should do, apparently. This was presaged in her reaction to the port shutdown during occupy, this is totally predictable. It's sort of "can't I just get rid of those icky protestors and wish them in to the cornfield?". Then again, originality and agility should not really be expected from a Mayor who passed a grand total of 4 pieces of legislation during her entire time on city council.

Re: “Vote Libby Schaaf for Mayor of Oakland

"Schaaf ... has an admirable work ethic". "As for Kaplan, we like her buoyant, upbeat attitude about Oakland, and her work to promote smart growth, mass transit, and bikeable streets. But we're concerned about her work ethic and her tendency to avoid taking tough stances on issues". So how does that square with Schaaf blowing off the vote on Coliseum City tonight at Council and Kaplan being the only one to vote for no extension because of a lack of transparency in the financials presented to Council? Who's avoiding what stance here? Also this leads to another question of how many other votes has Schaaf avoided like this or abstained on since she has been on the City Council?

Re: “The San Francisco Bay Guardian to Close After 48 Years

This was the endgame all along. And reading the smarmy, barely concealed triumphalism over at the SF WEAKly, that bastion of investigative social calendaring posing as a real newspaper - is both nauseating and infuriating. All that aside, to kill the archives and try to wipe the Guardian from the face of the earth by killing access to the archives on the same day that a-hole Zuehls killed the paper without notice is just despicable. But sadly unsurprising from the man who said that "providing the highest quality journalism for our readers along with superior results for our advertisers, is my sole priority." What a joke. What "journalism"?

This was the endgame all along. Read the barely concealed triumphalist bullshit over at that bastion of cutting edge social calendaring posing as a "news" paper, the SF WEAKly. Its alternately nauseating and infuriating all at the same time. And to close access to the archives is just despicable. But unsurprising from the man who said "superior results for our advertisers, is my sole priority." What a piece of s%^t. Bruce WHY DID YOU EVER SELL???

Re: “Tiki Makes a Comeback

It is beyond my comprehension that this article does not mention the Kona Club on upper Piedmont Ave - which has been doing Tiki for years. No hipster neo-faux Tiki, but actual velvet painting, grass wall Tiki. And yes they make a legit Mai Tai. Unreal.

Re: “Sierra Club Threatens Legal Action Against Oakland Council Candidate Jill Broadhurst Over Campaign Mailers

Whatever "Mr. Longevity" Hobart Johnson - who joined 8/1/14. I have no leaning one way or the other in this race. I find it reprehensible that Broadhurst would dump this on her consultant instead of owning it. And if you spend a few seconds roaming the web you will see that misappropriation of a logo for political mailers is hardly a trivial matter. It speaks volumes about her character that she signed off on it and them blamed her consultant when the heat came. And if she didn't sign off on it - well that's a whole different book now isn't it?
