Re: “Merritt College Nursing Woes

Ok Well lets see, I truly believe that those interviewed for this story should have put more time and effort into their studies instead of being interviewed for a magazine. None of the upper classman or those who made it that semester were interviewed. I personally tried to help one of the students who was interviewed for this article. None of my advice or pointers was used by that student but they are complaining about how the did not make it through.?! The nursing program here is difficult, there is no question about that. But all nursing programs are. Do you want a nurse at your bedside who breezed through an easy program? No sir, you are trusting this person with your life. After making it through the rigorous first semester it is a different program. While this program does have its issues it also has some of the best teachers I have had in my life! Ms. Kelly and Mr. Bratchett are hands down the most supportive, enthusiastic and knowledgeable instructors there. They truly are there to teach you about nursing, not just what the text says. Its a shame that none of these students made it through the tough first semester to have a chance to learn from the great teachers there. I wish these students luck in the future and maybe another school will be a better fit but dissing the program like this just makes the rest of us proud Merritt College nurses look bad. Our program may be difficult but it produces the type of nurses I want caring for me when I'm ill.
