Ritz Chamber Players

When: Sat., Oct. 4, 7:30 p.m. 2008
Price: $30-$40

Four Seasons Concerts, about to launch its 50th season of championing fine artists, was founded by the late Dr. Hazaiah Williams, who especially (but never exclusively) focused on musicians who reflect the racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity of our country. A case in point is the Ritz Chamber Players, America's first chamber ensemble comprised solely of artists with roots in the African diaspora. Its four musicians, who play clarinet, violin, cello, and piano, make beautiful music while increasing the visibility of African-American classical composers, and heighten public awareness of African-American classical musicians. Their concert repertoire includes works by accepted masters Bruch, Brahms, and Mendelssohn, and the contemporary AdolphusHailstork. They perform at Regents Theatre at HolyNamesUniversity (3500 Mountain Blvd., Oakland) on Saturday, Oct. 4. 7:30 p.m., $30-$40. FourSeasonsConcerts.com or 510-845-4444
