Re: “Waste Management Launches Referendum Drive to Win Back Oakland Garbage Contract

As a person who Works in the business, I can tell you that the city council has made a grave mistake in awarding such an important job to a company that has absolutely NO INFRASTRUCTURE to process the waste stream. This company CWS does not have a single permit to build a transfer station dump. Waste Management already does. CWS is trying to build a dump in West Oakland. They do not have a Green waste and food waste/organics processing facility. Waste management already does, with full compliance of state and county laws. CWS does not have mrf facilities for the recovery of dry construction debris and construction and demolition mandated by the state. Waste Management already does. CWS has two facilities to sort out reciclables from residential customers. The sort out aluminum and high quality plastic and cardboard, the rest is put in bales and shipped out in containers to asia. They do not recicle locally. Waste management recycles single stream locally in San Leandro by unionized employees at their transfer station. The owner of CWS needs at least 250 million dollars in the bank and a whole lot of permits from every government agency in order to be ready to provide the 3 essential services to the city. And unless the city is going to fund part of this Enterprise for this CWS company now or down the road, I suggest if you live in Oakland you start signing that petition circulated by the hated gigant Waste Management.
